Pubs and Restaurants

There are a number of good pubs (for food) and restaurants of every kind at Macclesfield as well as a variety of pubs along the canal. A selection of recommended hostelries by the canal follows:

The Robin Hood Inn, Buxton Road, Buglawton, Congleton (300yrds from Bridge 61) Absolutely excellent. Superb menu and wine list, Marstons ale, friendly service.

Ye Olde Kings Head
Gurnett. Situated next to the aqueduct, it is a favourite spot for boaters with fine ales, wines and exceptional food.

Puss in Boots
Buxton Road, Macclesfield. Canalside at Bridge 37. Under new management. Boddingtons beer. Friendly atmosphere, boaters welcome. Waterside

Miners Arms
Higher Poynton. A large comfortable modern pub with great outdoor facilities for kids, picnic tables for alfresco meals. Friendly service and a wide and varied menu. Boddingtons beer. Waterside

Fools Nook
London Road (A523), Oak Grove, Macclesfield. Adjacent to the electronic swing bridge (49). Good food, extensive menu, Boddingtons beer. Waterside

There is a fine selection of pubs in Bollington. Recommended is The Poachers. Some distance from the canal but well worth the walk.

The Bulls Head
on the A6 at High Lane overlooks the canal at Bridge 11 serving good food and ales. Waterside

The Ring O' Bells
is virtually canalside at Marple (Bridge 2) serving Robinson's ales and food.  Waterside

The Lord Clyde
Clarke Lane, Kerridge (near Bollington). Near to Bridge 29

Sutton Hall
Bridge 44, Gurnett. Good food, friendly atmosphere. Hotel and restaurant.
